Ladies Guild holds annual Christmas Bazaar

RAVENSWOOD — The Ladies Guild of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ravenswood hosted its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday November 8th, 2008 in the gathering space of St. Matthew’s Catholic church in Ravenswood.

Members of the Ladies Guild did spend the better part of the year crafting items for the bazaar and baked several hundreds of cookies, dozens of cakes and breads.

Over the past years, the annual Christmas bazaar has established a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship at reasonable prices. Read the full story

Ace Gaming celebrates Veterans Day

Ace Gaming celebrates Veterans Day

RAVENSWOOD — Veteran’s Day was celebrated Tuesday with an American Flag cake and red, white and blue drinks.

ACE Gaming Center honored veterans with the cake and by offering a discount for all veterans and families toward all gaming for the day.

Mayor Lucy Harbert was present to help honor the veterans as well as other council members. Amanda Wilson made the cake with the help of BP Super Stop Kitchen.

Wilson said the icing alone was over seven gallons. There were 18 cake mixes and six-dozen eggs. Read the full story

County honors our Veterans

County honors our Veterans

RIPLEY – The City of Ripley held its annual Veterans Day memorial ceremony Nov. 11.

Services were held on a chilly, overcast morning on the lawn of the Jackson County Courthouse.

Several times, blustery winds knocked over flags that had been erected to commemorate the event.

“This cold weather’s not helping us any,” said Stanley Shaffer, Commander of American Legion Post 107 in Ripley.

Despite the cold, a crowd of dozens turned out to pay tribute. Read the full story

All three Ripley teams reach finals

All three Ripley teams reach finals

RIPLEY — Next Sunday, Memorial Stadium will host all three Ripley teams in the Midget League.

The rare trifecta was accomplished over the weekend as all three teams took to the field: A and C-Team on Saturday and B-Team on Sunday.

Ripley’s A-Team started off the festivities as they defeated Gilmer County, 20-7. The game was played in Spencer.

Ripley’s C-Team then took on the homestanding Roane County C-Teamers, looking to continue the Vikings winning ways. Read the full story

Homecoming parade draw enthusiastic crowds

RIPLEY — A crowd of hundreds turned out to see the annual Ripley High School Homecoming Parade Sept. 25.

People lined up along both sides of Church Street Thursday evening to watch the parade as it made its way from Ripley High School toward the Jackson County Courthouse. For some, it was their first time in attendance.

“This is the first time I’ve been to it,” said Roy DeLong. “I’m just anticipating it’ll be a good parade.”

Marty Moore, who said she was excited about Friday’s night’s ball game, agreed. “I think it’s a nice event,” said Moore, who added it was her first time seeing the parade in several years. Read the full story
