GRAFTON, WV – Bitter cold air surrounded McKinney Field in Grafton Friday night for seventh-seeded Ravenswood’s quarterfinal playoff matchup against the second-seeded Bearcats. The air of controversy that plagued the week leading up to the game regarding field conditions was all for naught– McKinney field’s sod was comparable to that of Flinn Field. Unfortunately for Red Devil fans, other controversies appeared during Ravenswood’s 41-7 loss to Grafton.

RAVENSWOOD — The Ravenswood Red Devils proved against the Poca Dots they are capable of quick turnarounds — both from season to season and play to play. On the opening kickoff, Poca’s Forrest Mattox found a lane on the far sideline and sprinted 85 yards for a touchdown. Ravenswood senior linebacker Jake Young then blocked the extra point, and for a while, both teams treated Flinn Field fans to a defensive slugfest.
Throughout the first quarter, both teams exchanged several possessions. During one Red Devil drive, Poca successfully defended an ill-timed reverse play that pinned the Red Devils deep in their own territory. However, sophomore punter Chad Small proved to be anything but, as his 43-yard punt bailed out his team. Read the full story
