Ladies Guild holds annual Christmas Bazaar

RAVENSWOOD — The Ladies Guild of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ravenswood hosted its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday November 8th, 2008 in the gathering space of St. Matthew’s Catholic church in Ravenswood.

Members of the Ladies Guild did spend the better part of the year crafting items for the bazaar and baked several hundreds of cookies, dozens of cakes and breads.

Over the past years, the annual Christmas bazaar has established a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship at reasonable prices.

This year nearly 300 people came to look for crafts, Christmas presents, the new parish cookbook, home baked goodies and the famous Hot Dogs with sauce.

As in the last years three valuable donated items will were raffled off on the day of the bazaar

The lucky raffle winners were:

  • Diane Moresea winner of the painting of the seashore by local artist, Inez Wimbauer.
  • Dorothy Lantz (Carol Lantz’ mother) won the traditional pie-chest handcrafted by well-known local craftsman Curt Harris.
  • Pat Howard won the colorful yo-yo quilt made by members of St. Matthew’s Ladies Guild.

All winners have been notified.

Betty Harris, chairperson of the bazaar was pleased with the results.

“The Ladies worked many hours preparing for the bazaar,” she said. “We were happy to have Lola Smith with her beautiful ‘Scherenschnitte’ and Mabel Gorrell with her wonderful jewelry. We are always proud to offer outstanding craftsmanship to the community enabling us to earn funds toward our new fellowship hall and provide for the many other charitable projects of the Ladies’ Guild.”
